Spectacles' Lenses
SINGLE VISION
This is the standard type of lens. It is a plastic or glass lens without any coating and is therefore the most cost effective lens available. Nowadays 99% of lenses are plastic and we will provide these lenses unless instructed otherwise.
SCRATCH RESISTANCE LENSES
This is a plastic lens with an additional protective coating applied to the front and back of the lens surface. This extra protection means that the lenses maintain clearer vision for longer
HI-INDEX (THIN LENSES)
If you have a high prescription but are conscious of the thickness or bulge of the lenses, you can now choose Hi-index lenses which maintain the prescription whilst significantly reducing the thickness of the lens. Reflective free coating generally comes as standard with these lenses.
PHOTOCHROMIC LENSES
Made of a special glass and plastic material theses lenses change colour in accordance with the intensity of the light conditions. Therefore they act as prescription sunglasses outside but are clear when worn indoors. These lenses offer complete UV protection and can be darkened to Grey or Brown.
ANTI-GLARE LENSES
Normal lenses can reflect more than 5% of incoming light. This can cause glare during night driving and ‘ghost’ images when in brightly lit rooms or when working with a computer monitor. Anti-glare lenses have a reflection free coating on the front and back of the lenses which significantly reduces this reflection. They also reduce reflection for people who look at your glasses, making your eyes visible, rather than a reflection of the world around you. All anti-glare lenses are provided with a scratch resistant coating as standard.
VARIFOCAL LENSES
As with Bifocals these lenses are useful for those who need to switch between near and far vision. The advantage of varifocals is that there is no disturbance to your vision as the lenses do not have two distinct strengths. They also contain an intermediate distance correction which is very useful for working on computers.
BIFOCALS
These lenses come with a reading segment fixed into the lens. These lenses are useful for switching between near and far objects without removing your glasses, however, the wearer is able to see the line in the lens which can be distracting for some.
TINTS
We offer a full range of tints in any colour including graduated and mirror tints. All include UV protection. We are happy to tailor these lenses to your individual needs e.g. driving, sports, computer monitor etc. Tints are charged at £5 per lens/per set of glasses.
POLARISED
Polarised prescription lenses are particularly useful in cutting down glare in water sports and other related activities such as fishing. Polarised lenses are charged at £50 above the standard rate.
